Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Classes

Zerth Priest

This class is only available to Githzerai characters.

The zerth are the githzerai priests. They are the favourites of Zerthimon and they believe that, when Zerthimon will be back, he will call them first and bring them to the new paradise.

The zerth are phanaticals and attack the githyanki on sight even when they have no hope. This in memory of the fact that their god, Zerthimon, in the battle against Gith, sacrificed his life to free the githzerai.

Prime requisites: Wisdom, Charisma
Minimum requisites: Constitution 11, Charisma 16, Dexterity 13, Wisdom 13.
Hit Dice: The zerth roll d8; from 9th level on they add +2
Level progression: As priests
Saving throws: As priests
THAC0: As priests
Alignment: Neutral, Chaotic Neutral
Non weapon proficiencies: As priests
Weapon proficiencies: As priests
Weapons: Bashing weapons and thief weapons (dagger, darts, hand crossbow, knife, lasso, short bow, broad sword, long sword, short sword).
Armors: Up to chain mail.
Equipment: The Zerth must buy a ring or amulet representing the god Zerthimon.
Magical items: Zerth can use magical items reserved to clerics and thieves.
Starting gold: 3d6x10 GP.

The Zerth receives 140 character points to buy class skills. Unspent points can be used to buy non weapon proficiencies or kept for later use.

Sphere access: access to a spell sphere costs from 3 to 10 CP, as detailed here:

Sphere Partial access Full access
Astral 3 5
All 3 5
Combat 5 10
Creation 5 10
Divination 5 10
Summoning 5 -
Guard 5 -
Healing 3 -
Protection 5 10
Travel 3 5

Spell duration extension (10): the duration of all non instantaneous spells cast by the Zerth is raised by 1 round every 2 levels.

Followers (5/10): the Zerth can attract a group of followers (see priest) if he built a sizeable worship site and is at least 8th level. If he buys the 10 points skill, the zerth can attract followers when he estabilished the site, no matter his level.

Phanatism (10): the Zerth has a +1 to hit and damage due to his phanatism. Against a githyanki this bonus is raised to +2.

Detect demons (10): concentrating for one round, the zerth can detect the presence of any fiend (baatezu, tanar'ri, yugoloth, slaadi) in a 18 meters radius.

Bonus hit points (10): the zerth rolls 1d10 instead of 1d8 to determine hit points.

Casting time reduction (5): spell casting time is reduced by 1 (minimum 1).

Turn undead, demons and devils (10): the zerth can turn undead, demons and devils as a cleric of the same level.

Zerth-sorcerors (15): the Zerth with this skill has access to a magic school and can cast the spells from this school as if they were clerical spells. The character must respect the maximum number of spells per level per day anyway.

Single specialization (10): the character can specialize in any one weapon. To this cost the one for the specialization must be added.

Thieving skills (20): it seems that thieves have a certain relevance in the odd religion of the Githzerai. This reflects tha ability of the zerth to use some trick (pick pockets, climb walls etcetera) chosen by him. He can choose two 10 CP skills or four 5 CP skills or two 5 CP skills and one 10 CP skill. For the progression, see the table on page 23 of the DMG:

Zerth-fighters (10): the zerth with this skill can have exceptional strength and use the Constitution bonuses, like fighters. For example, the zerth could have 18/70 strength and gain bonus HP with more than 16 CON.

Research bonus (5): when the zerth wishes to research a new spell of the Astral spell, the spell must be treated as if it was one level lower than the effective one.

Bonus to astral spells (10): the Zerth with this power can memorize one additional spell per level. This spell must belong to the Astral sphere. When the zerth casts spells of this spell, all variables based on his level (range, duration, etc.) are calculated as if the Zerth was one level higher.

Zerthimon's Chosen (20): the Zerth are the chosen of Zerthimon. A character with this skill can add 1 to either Wisdom or Charisma (at the PCs choice).
