The Paladin Class
From the Players
Handbook page 27
Only a Human may become a paladin, but there have been rumors
of Elvin Paladins. He/She must have minimum ability scores of Strength
12, Constitution 9, Wisdom 13, and Charisma 17. Strength and Charisma
are the prime requisites of the paladin class. A paladin must also have
an alignment of Lawful Good but Chaotic Evil Paladins have been known
to exist and they are called Anti-Paladins. A paladin who changes his/her
alignment, either deliberately or inadvertently, loses all his/her special
powers - sometimes only temporarily and sometimes forever. A paladin with
16 or better in his/her prime requisite scores gains a 10% bonus to the
Experience he/she gains.
There are many rules to follow while being a paladin:
1. A paladin may not possess more than 10 magical items.
2. A paladin never retains wealth only enough to support himself by
modest means, pay his followers, and to build or maintain a castle,
keep, or stronghold.
3. A paladin must tithe 10% of his/her income to what ever charitable,
religious institution of lawful good alignment he/she serves.
4. A paladin does not attract a body of followers like the fighter but
he/she may hire soldiers or specialists of lawful good alignment.
5. A paladin may only hire lawful good henchmen.
A paladin gains the following special benefits:
1. A paladin can detect the presence of evil intent up to 60 feet away
by concentrating on locating evil in a particular direction.
2. A paladin gain +2 to all saving throws.
3. A paladin is immune to all forms of disease.
4. A paladin can heal by laying on hands restoring 2H.P/level 1X/day.
5. A paladin can cure disease 1X/week for each 5 levels of experience.
6. A paladin is surrounded by an aura of protection with a 10foot radius.
7. A paladin using a holy sword projects a circle of power of
30feet in diameter when the sword is unsheathed and held.
8. A paladin upon reaching level 3 gains the ability to turn undead
as a priest 2 levels lower than him/her. ie. paladin level 3 turns as
a priest level 1.
9. A paladin may call for his/her war horse upon reaching level 4 or
anytime after that. A paladin's steed need not be a horse, it can be
whatever mount the player decides and/or the DM allows.
10. A paladin can cast priest spells once he/she reaches level 9, but
unlike a priest the paladin doesn't get the bonus spells for a high
wisdom.
